Middletown Library Has a Free Seed-Lending Collection for Local Gardeners

MIDDLETOWN — November 2, 2026. Middletown Library in Lake County hosts a seed lending collection that allows residents to take seeds for home planting and contribute properly saved seeds for future gardeners.

How the seed collection works

The library describes vegetables and flowers as available categories and welcomes seed donations from gardeners. The collection is hosted at 21256 Washington Street, where the branch is normally open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

What donors should bring

The library recommends clean, dry, labeled seeds from open-pollinated varieties, or properly isolated plants where cross-pollination is possible. Hybrid seeds may not grow true to type, which is why clear provenance and identification matter.

Not a promise of an individual variety

Availability changes with seasonal donations and borrowing. Gardeners should contact the branch at 707-987-3674 before traveling for a particular tomato, flower or seed packet.
